The Bandipur National Park is one of the most fascinating wild-life centers. Established in 1931 by the Mysore Maharajhas, this park is nestled in the foothills of the Nilgiris. Bandipur National Park sprawls in 874.20 sq. km. of land in the south Indian state of Karnataka. Bandipur National Park, with its open grassy woodland, lies to the south of the Kabini River. Bandipur, lying in the shadow of the Western Ghats, is one of the finest habitats of the Asian elephant. Watered by the Moyar River, its open forest makes it easy for visitors to see the elephant and gaur in their natural surroundings.

The Flora : The area is rich in moist deciduous forests. The upper canopy reaches heights of 30 m and valuable hardwoods like teak and rosewood are also to be found here. Other vegetations include - honnes, mathis, bamboos and sandalwoods.
The Fauna : The flora and fauna exist in perfect harmony here. Bandipur has good number of tiger population. Apart from tigers, you can also find gaur, Peafowl, patridges, quail, hornbill, giant squirrel, dhole( wild dog), elephants, sambar, barking deer, etc.
