Marina beach, located on the eastern side of Chennai, adjoining the Bay of Bengal is one of the loveliest beaches in India. The 4.5 km long beach is one of the longest beaches in Asia and the second longest beach in the world. Marina beach lies to the east of Chennai (Madras) at Kamarajar Road, 3 Km from the city centre. The fine sandy beach extends to a length of 55 Km, from Fort St. George all the way to Mahabalipuram. There is a drive along the beach fringed with palms and casuarinas trees running the whole length of Chennai. A stroll along the Marina, whether in the morning or evening, refreshes one. With its natural sandy beauty and spacious promenade and beautiful gardens, the beach is a major attraction for tourists visiting Chennai.

Beach Activities
In the evenings, the beach is virtually a fair ground with various kinds of entertainment and food stalls lining the beach. The Sunday afternoon market is a place to visit. The large beach is often the venue for important state functions. Kite flying is a common sport with the children at the beach and there are also facilities for pony rides. As the undercurrent is very strong, bathing and swimming can be dangerous, and should be done with utmost care. 

Attractions on the Beach
Situated on the beach ,the Anna and MGR samadhis which are the memorials of the most popular former Chief Ministers of the State attract good crowd everyday. An aquarium is also located on the Marina Beach. Some of the most beautiful buildings in Chennai such as the University of Madras,Senate-House,Chepauk Palace, Presidency College, P.W.D office and Ice House are located on the beach drive.
